Professor Kenneth Young
Professor Kenneth Young is an Emeritus Professor of Physics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He obtained his BS and PhD at California Institute of Technology, USA in 1969 and 1972 respectively. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and has been a Vice-President of the Association of Asia-Pacific Physical Societies. He has been chairman of the Hong Kong Curriculum Development Council (2011 to 2017) and in that capacity also a member of the Education Commission. He is the chairman of the Shaw Prize Council and vice Chairman of its Board of Adjudicators.
Professor Young specialises in elementary particles, field theory, high energy phenomenology and dissipative systems.
Professor Young has taught at CUHK for 50 years since 1973. He has been at various times chairman of the Department of Physics, Dean of Science and Dean of the Graduate School. He also served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK from 1994 to 2011. For his teaching in physics, he received the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award. He was also the Founding Master of CW Chu College and currently Advisor to the Master.
